How to use the Observation Recording screen to view patients, filter results, and review observation data.

Overview of the observation recording screen

The Observation Recording screen displays all patients currently under your care, along with their observation status.

At the top of the screen, you will see key performance indicators (KPIs). These provide a quick summary of activity.

🤓Tip: If you need more screen space, select Hide stats to collapse the KPI section.


View patient details

To see more information about a patient:

  1. Select the patient’s name from the table.

  2. A pop up opens showing key patient details.

The patient list displays 10 patients per page.

To move between pages:

  • Select a page number to jump directly to that page.

  • Use the Previous and Next arrows to navigate.

🤓 Note: Any search or filter settings remain applied when you switch pages.


Search and filter patients

You can quickly locate patients using search and filters.

Search by patient

  1. Use the search bar.

  2. Enter the patient’s name or NHS number.

Filter by ward

  1. Select the Wards filter.

  2. If you have access to multiple wards:

    • Use the search bar within the dropdown to find a ward, or

    • Scroll through the list.

  3. Select the required ward. Once selected, the table updates to show only patients in that ward.

  4. To return to the full list:

    • Select All wards.


View recent observations

To view recently recorded observations:

  1. Select Recent observations.

    • A table appears showing:

      • Patient details

      • Location

      • Observation type

      • Recorded by

      • Date and time

Filter recent observations

Filtering works the same as the patient list, with an additional option:

  • Filter by time range using pre-set options or a custom date range.

To remove all filters:

  • Select Clear filters

View observation details

  1. In the Actions column, select the view icon.

  2. A pop up opens showing full observation details.


View observation history

To review a patient’s full observation history:

  1. Select the Observation History tab.

  2. Use the search bar to find a patient by:

    • Name

    • NHS number

  3. Optionally filter by:

    • Ward

    • Observation level

Open a patient’s history

  1. Select the patient’s name.

  2. A table displays their observation submissions.

You can adjust the date range to refine the results.

View a specific observation

  1. In the Actions column, select the view icon.

  2. A pop up opens with detailed information.

To return to the patient list:

  • Select Select different patient.
