Therapeutic observations can be recorded for patients on therapeutic wards using forms configured locally by your Trust. This article introduces how therapeutic observations work in Access Rio Observations, explains the therapeutic observation level, and walks you through how to change it for a patient.
Watch our introduction to therapeutic observations video below.
What are therapeutic observations
Therapeutic observation tasks appear in the Tasks List screen, within the therapeutic observation tab, and in the To Do list within a patient profile in the same way as physical observation tasks.
Each patient on a therapeutic ward has a therapeutic observation level. This level determines which observation form is assigned to them as a task.
View the therapeutic observation level
The current therapeutic observation level is shown as a pill in the patient header on the Patient Profile screen. You may need to scroll across to see it.
Tapping the therapeutic observation level pill displays the patient's current level and a history of any previous level changes.
Change the therapeutic observation level
To change the therapeutic observation level for a patient:
Tap the therapeutic observation level pill in the patient header.
Click Change therapeutic observation level.
Select the new level from the available options. The levels shown are configured by your Trust and will reflect your local clinical context.
Add a comment to explain the reason for the change.
Select Change level to confirm.
The task associated with the new level is immediately assigned to the patient.
